    Description

The advertising agency Doyle Dane Bernbach created a series of remarkable ads for Volkswagen in the 1960's. Often thought of as the best and most effective ad campaign in history, their wordplay and designs responded directly and frankly to the character of that unique automobile.
This advertisement is one in that series. A blury view of the Volkswagen Beetle or Bug as it is now known. Not a new car, not a new design, the same car with some minor improvements. Even the ad says so: "Nothing earth-shaking." And the ending line in the ad text: "And by the time they're on the car, there won't be a bug in them.
This ad page is from a February 1961 issue of LIFE magazine.
The ad page has some significant wrinkles. The paper they used was thin. It has yellowed with age. But you don't often find these vintage magazines in tip-top condition. They were purchased, read, and then handed on to someone else. Please review the numerous photos that I have attached to review the condition.
