Susan Duckworth was one of the core designers in Rowan's re-vitalization of hand knitting over the past several decades. Her designs are always rich, combining beautiful soft colors with interesting textures to create a look that is instantly recognizable. "Butterfly Floral" is a prime example of Susan's designs at their very best -- a wide range of strong pastels for the butterflies and flowers set against a beautiful peach background. The design was first published in
Summer and Winter Knitting
in 1987, but the colors and overall design are still as stylish as they were decades ago. Classic Duckworth and a classic example of the English approach to color. Although the pattern may seem complex, anyone comfortable with motif intarsia can tackle this wonderful sweater. "Butterfly Floral" features simple shaping, modified drop shoulder sleeves, a graceful scoop neck collar and simple ribbed borders. It is rated for experienced knitters. The design comes in one size to fit up to a 38 inch bust/chest.  Here we offer an complete kit with yarns that have been discontinued for almost two decades.  Butterfly Floral is knit in three Rowan 100% cotton yarns, Sea Breeze (Soft Cotton), Cable Mercerized Cotton, and Salad Days (Knobbly Cotton), all fine weight yarns that came in a broad range of shades.  Since these yarns have been long discontinued attempting to recreate this kit can be very difficult. The pattern calls for a tension of 30 stitches and 36 rows to 4 inches (10 cm) on US 3 (3.25 mm) needles.
