Description
Offered for sale is a beautiful antique opalescent glass bowl made by Northwood. This is a whimsey version. When it was made, it was modified from the usual round bowl shape by being pulled into a triangle, with three lobes raised and pulled up at the edges. The pattern is called BEADED OVALS. The raised design appears on the outer surface of the glass; the inside surface is smooth, allowing the pattern to show through. The bowl itself is clear glass, extending into a white opalescence at the outer edge. This pattern dates from appx. 1906.The bowl measures appx. 8 1/2 inches (21.6cm) in diameter, and stands appx. 2 1/2 inches (6.3cm) tall to the highest point. It is shown with a U.S. quarter in the third picture, to give an accurate impression of the size at a glance. This is a magnificent antique opalescent bowl for your collection!
The bowl is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, scratches or repairs. There is one solid white inclusion sealed inside the glass (pictures 3 and 6). It appears to be a chunk of silica sand that did not completely melt when the glass was made, and is NOT the result of damage.
