EXTREMELY RARE !!!! 1 of only 5,960. This Coin Is In Great Condition, it has been in circulation, what also make it so rare is that most of these coins have been melted down over the last 180 years.
There was
442,000 coins minted in 1841 in Calcutta & Bombay. However only
5,960 of these coins are of the type 1, these coins that were minted,
had the Roman 4 that has the "serif" with No WW in the trunk of the bust and the short pony tail.
1841 there was 442,000 Gold Mohur Coins minted in India.
Type 1 was struck in Bombay or Calcutta, Possibly Madras as well), Out of the 442,000 minted there was only 5,960 that has NO WW in the trunk and Short 1 Piece Pony tail and the end and bottom of the 4 there is a extra piece “Serif” like a roman 4, these are the rarest.
The remainder
(Type 2, British India. Gold Mohur, 1841C, obv VICTORIA QUEEN, obverse 2, crosslet “4” in date, rev leaves in the palm do not go under the “A” of “INDIA”, 11.65g.
Kalkutta/Calcutta are a type 2 with the thick longer pony tail and also has WW in the trunk and the 4 is a normal cut at the end of some, but there is also some that have the roman 4 with the "Serif"also the date is a little bigger. The one with the seriffed 4 is the rarest and only make up for 20% of the type 2 coins struck.
NOTE: This coin may have been used as jewelery at one time, there is a very little piece of protruding gold on the rim "See old Scanned Photos", when this coin was certified and encapsulated by ICG Gradeing Company, they could not determine what it was as it was so small and therefore did not grade the coin to be an AU or MS, only as genuine.
